#QUANTUM BREAK PC OPTIMIZATION FULL#
I've read a lot of bad things about them just throwing full episodes between acts but I loved that.

I don't wanna hang on the live-action too long but I absolutely adored it. I felt like there was a lot of untapped potential for extra puzzles that take advantage of the mechanics, but I can understand wanting to focus less on that and more on the combat. Traversal in combat only got better as the game went on, I just kind of wish they could've done some extra stuff with the powers outside of combat. Especially at high frame rates, combat just felt so fluid and amazing. After playing both Alan Wake and American Nightmare I was itching for some classic Remedy gunplay akin to Max Payne, and they delivered in spades. Past performance, gameplay was kind of everything I wanted it to be. It's a shame more effort wasn't put into optimization for PC with Remedy's long-standing history on the platform.

Also just a weird note, I watched some benchmarks and even the 3090 can barely keep it over 4k 60fps on max. Also there'd occasionally be issues where the ambient occlusion just got a weird pattern to it and I'd have to restart? Dunno what that was about but it was similar to the glitch on Xbox One X when DigitalFoundry first covered the game's performance on that. Things like even touching the mouse causing the camera to vibrate as it pans around you before relinquishing control, characters stuttering back and forth in a way much less visually appealing than the stutter events in the game. There were so many visual glitches I experienced around this it was insane. What I couldn't look past were the moments the game shot down to 30fps, like leading up to and transitioning out of a cutscene. Eventually I was able to look past it in most places. I fiddled with AA, tried downsampling from 1440p, nothing really worked well enough so I gave up. Even with the weird upscaling turned off, it never felt like I was playing at 1080p. In the end it was absolutely worth it because I briefly tried it capped at 60fps and the difference was huge. The only problem is that I had to limit the frame rate to 90 because anything past that would make the game stutter. I ran it at 1080p, max settings, and got between 80-90fps. The performance in the PC port is still so rough though, even years later. So many of the particle and distortion effects were incredible to watch and be around. The real time cutscenes are still incredibly impressive. Graphically this was so polarizing to me. I'm actually on a bit of a Remedy kick where I replayed Alan Wake, finally beat the DLC for that, played and beat Alan Wake's American Nightmare for the first time, and tonight I just beat Quantum Break! I want to give some impressions from the PC side, since it seems a lot of people here played it on X1/XSX. Figured I'd talk in here instead of making a new thread but I picked this and Control up in the recent Steam sale for $30.
